AGO and Asia Foundation sign MoU of Cooperation
On Tuesday, December 13, 2016, the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) held a ceremony in the conference hall of AGO High Council in Shahr-e-Naw with participation of Wahiduddin Arghoon, Deputy Attorney General for Administrative and Finance Affairs, Saranpoh Enayatullah Kamal, Deputy Attorney General for Judiciary, Abdullah Ahmadzai, Asia Foundation Country Representative, and some of the central directors of AGO.
The goal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of Cooperation is to start an internship program in AGO and building the capacities of (242) female graduates from Sharia and Law faculties. According to the Deputy Attorney General for Administrative and Finance Affairs, the interns will receive one month practical training in Attorney General’s Office and will start working in the provinces for five months based on AGO requirements. After the internship period is over and the interns pass the Competitive Entrance Exam, AGO will hire qualified interns for its vacant positions in the capital and provinces.
While signing the MoU of Cooperation on behalf of Attorney General, Mr. Arghoon said, “The Leadership Board of AGO has made a commitment to maintain gender equality in Attorney General’s Office. This office has provided women with employment opportunities in administrative and vocational fields in (18) provinces.”
The Asia Foundation Country Representative said the main goal of signing the MoU of Cooperation is to increase the number of female employees in AGO. He added, “The interns will learn skills including legal writing, written and oral communication, how to behave in the workplace, and networking.”
The US Agency for International Development provides funding for the internship program. Meanwhile, AGO previously signed a MoU of Cooperation regarding Elimination of Violence against Women with four Afghan Ministries.
