AGO conducts its weekly high council meeting

On Sunday, February 26, 2017, Attorney General’s Office conducted weekly High Council meeting under the supervision of Mohammad Farid Hamidi, Attorney General of Afghanistan in the presence of AGO deputies and High Council members.

At the beginning of the meeting, participants discussed on suggestion of the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Centers related to telecommunication tools, which have been found from prisoners during body search.

The High Council assigned the Research and Studies Directorate to prepare a suggestion considering the law on prisons and detention centers for improvement of this directorate’s affairs. Based on the decision of the AGO High Council, the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Centers shall conduct their own high council meeting and take actions accordingly.

Then, the meeting participants discussed on the final cases of children under detention and prisoners. Based on the suggestion of Provision Enforcement Prosecution Office, Department of Prisons is uncooperative with the Decree Implementation Commission on presidential amnesty and remission decree after its issuance.

Regarding this case, the High Council decided to establish a joint committee consisting of representatives from Military, Civilian and National Security Prosecutions under the supervision of Research and Studies Directorate. This committee is responsible to investigate and submit an organized solution to the High Council for approval.

At the end, the meeting members discussed on Kabul Appellate Prosecution Office suggestion about suspects of drug smugglers whose cases are finalized. This suggestion states that some of the prisoners, who have completed their imprisonment period, deny providing bail.

The High Council meeting decided to have more discussions on the issue next week.
