AGO High Council Meeting was conducted on August 21, 2016 under chair of Saranpoh Mohammad Farid Hamidi, the Attorney General of Afghanistan

The AGO High Council discussed and made decisions on important issues with participation of Deputy Attorney Generals and AGO Central Heads. According to the agenda, the council discussed how to conduct a countrywide prosecutors’ conference. As part of the reform process to use low or no-cost merit-based rewards, Saranpoh Mohammad Farid Hamidi stated to encourage good performance, 40 prosecutors chosen and recognized as better staff of AGO and appreciated in High Council meetings. Also, members of the AGO High Council in order to respect and honor martyrs of AGO, will have a memorial of AGO martyrs during the martyrs’ week (Haftai Shaheed) with their families present at the memorial. Tens of prosecutors died securing justice and implementation of law throughout the country in the last years.

In the second part of the session, AGO High Council assigned a committee to evaluate and study the context of cooperation agreement between AGO, Ministry of Justice, the Supreme Court, Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled,  Ministry of Interior Affairs, and Children Social Welfare Organization and prepare the agreement for approval. Signing of a cooperation agreement is need to strengthen the use of alternatives to incarceration for those who are between the ages of 12 to 18.

AGO High Council noted that  prosecuting Kamran Alizai, Head of Herat Provincial Council, is an effort to enforce rule of law. In this meeting, the Attorney General mentioned that with observation of prestige and human dignity of people, AGO will not let anyone break the law anywhere.

At the end of the session, AGO High Council distributed medals for two AGO staff selected by the President’s Office. Attorney General Hamidi awarded the medals to Brigadier General Fazal Karim Sadat and Major General Mohammad Qaem Qaem based on the decree of the President’s Office recognizing support of the 97th Independence Day of Afghanistan.
