Attorney General Office (AGO) Holds Counter-Corruption Annual Conference
Attorney General Office (AGO) Holds Counter-Corruption Annual Conference:
On July 10, the AGO held its annual counter-corruption program conference with the AGO Director of Planning and Policy, Abdullah Ibrahimkhel, serving as chairman. Participants from central AGO directorates participated in the conference.
The conference participants discussed several suggestions relating to eradicating corruption at AGO. Some of the suggestions include; monitoring and assessment of prosecutors’ work, selection of professional employees based on qualification, ability and capability, ensuring that job applicants are given in-person exams, and using the capacity building for results (CBR) program.
In addition, the participants suggested that the installation of Security Cameras in AGO offices and establishment of an Electronic Attendance system can also help to minimize administrative corruption.
Contextualization for appointing advocates for defendants in provinces was another issue discussed in the session. Participants believe that lack of advocates in most provinces and remote areas of the country paves the way for corruption and abuse.
At last, participants suggested that two -free contact numbers be provided by the AGO to receive complaints so that citizens can easily share their grievances with the AGO.
