High Council Meeting of the AGO Conducted under Chairmanship of Mohammad Farid Hamidi, Attorney General (AG)

In the High Council meeting with participation of all central directors and deputies of this administration, discussion was on issues related to instruction requests from different departments and decisions made on appropriate instructions to follow.     

An important agenda item was the commission headed by Maliha Hassan, Deputy of AG for Administration and Finance, to review Law on Organization and Mandate of Courts of Judiciary. According to members of AGO High Council, the current law of the prosecution is not meeting requirements of this administration, and mandate and its responsibilities shall be legally redesigned.   

As part of the AGO High Council meeting, members of the civil society were invited to share their ideas for bringing better reform, as well as their opinions regarding the concept of joint cooperation between these institutions and the AGO. Officials from Afghanistan civil society marked this discussion with the AGO as a valuable opportunity, and extended their support to the reform process of this administration.            

Pohanmal Shahla Farid, Civil Society member, emphasized increased participation of women in the AGO to the members of civil society. She said respecting human rights and spirits of women by the prosecution office during case review process is essential.

Baari Salam, a member of Civil Society Organizations, noted that hope for justice provision by AGO has increased among Afghan people during the previous months. He said the lengthy time of investigation and negligence in trying prisoners’ cases in a timely manner is one of the main problems of justice and judicial institution workflow.          

Aziz Rafiei, another member of civil society, emphasized the prosecutor’s subsistence and security problems and asked leadership of National Unity Government to pay serious attention to these two matters.

Officials of the civil society, who participated in the meeting, stressed the importance of a close relationship with people and informing them about AGO activities.

The Attorney General Saranpoh Mohammad Farid Hamidi praised the civil society organizations as a bridge between people and the state. He added that these organizations understand the problems more than anybody else does. Mr. Hamidi urged the civil institutions to perform their efforts shoulder by shoulder with the AGO in order to ensure justice and enforce law.         

In the High Council Meeting, the AG pointed out that weak rule of law is one of the biggest obstacles of the people of Afghanistan. He assured Afghan people through civil societies that he is committed and determined to ensure justice and secure rule of law. He also asked people to visit AGO on Mondays which is dedicated to Afghan visitors to express their concerns.
