On May 6, 2017, AGO began a literacy program for civil servants. The Deputy Attorney General (DAG) for Finance and Administrative Affairs, Wahiduddin Arghon, and Directors of HR, Gender, and Prosecution Office for Elimination of Violence against Women attended an inauguration ceremony for the new literacy program.
DAG Arghon considers conducting such literacy programs as an important step towards increasing capacity of civil servants. He said, “Having primary education will be a standard for recruiting civil servants from now on.” He added, “AGO will conduct this program in all provinces in the future. Our civil servants should try to learn literacy in addition to their routine tasks.”
Mr. Arghon said, “The Human Resource Directorate has been assigned to prepare a list of all civil servants who lack primary education so AGO can plan literacy programs for them accordingly.
Mohammad Daud Afzali, Director of Human Resources, emphasized building capacity of civil servants is an obligation of the personnel directorate and added, “We will seriously monitor the literacy process.”
The literacy program is a first time initiative of AGO to improve the reading and writing ability of its civil servants.
