Attorney General’s Office (AGO) Conducts Public Awareness Program on Information Access Right
On Sunday, November 26, 2017, AGO conducted public awareness program on Information Access Right with the presence of Deputy Attorney General (DAG) for Investigation affairs, Saranpooh Noor Habib Jalal, representatives of Monitoring the Information Access Commission, AGO central directors and employees in conference hall of AGO of Professional Training Institute.
Mr. Jalal stated that public awareness and sharing information with public demonstrates justice and transparency.
He believes that when people are aware of the entities performances, they can give instructive suggestions that will lead to justice and transparency.
Mr. Jalal added: “Sometimes lack of public awareness about government facilities results in people’s unachievable demands”. Thus, the public should have knowledge of budget, facilities and methods of performance of government institutions in accordance with provisions of the law. He also demonstrated about establishment of Committee on Public Awareness in the AGO.
According to Mr. Jalal, this committee has performed instructive activities in terms of public awareness at AGO.
Mr. Jalal also appreciated public awareness through social networks in the AGO. He added that social networks have resulted in people awareness regarding AGO activities in just one click.
Mr. Jalal explained that, due to some limitations AGO can’t provide more details on cases to the media ahead of the court order. Therefore, media should act carefully in relation to such topics. Untimely publish of some cases can stir up and disturb public opinion and believe. He stated that people must understand that the AGO is strictly working to maintain justice and rule of law.
He also appreciated the activities of female employees of AGO in maintaining justice and rule of law.
Meanwhile, a member of Commission on Monitoring Access to Information, Abdul Shakor Dadras, emphasized on role of a prosecutors in the society and added: “a prosecutor offers hope to all people in the society.”
He added that whenever life, honor and right of people are endangered or wasted, the case is referred to a prosecutor. Therefore, a prosecutor has a decisive role in maintaining justice.
He further added: “a prosecutor is responsible for rehabilitating criminals and offering them back to the society as trustworthy individuals.”
Mr. Dadras emphasized the Information Access Right should be changed into a culture for the people. This member of Commission for Monitoring Access to Information believes that it can cooperate a prosecutor in finding out truth, maintaining justice and rule of law.
According to Mr. Dadras, reporting activities of the entities increases transparency and results in execution of tasks in a timely manner.
Appreciating timely reporting by the AGO, he added: “AGO is one of leading entities which has established the Committee for Public Awareness.”
He believes that reports of the institutions will result in retention of professional and expert cadre in governmental offices and prevention of potential corruption.
Moreover, AGO Spokesman, Jamshid Rasouli, talked about improvement in reporting by this entity.
He added that despite legal limitations and a series of challenges that do not allow AGO to provide all the information to media and public, but still, this entity has obtained an acceptable position in terms of reporting amongst governmental offices.
Mr. Rasouli thanked and appreciated the media for considering accuracy in terms of reporting and their cooperation with this entity.
