The support of National Unity Government (NUG) would increase the expectations of Attorney General’s Office (AGO) from the Afghan people

The High Council Meeting of AGO held on Sunday, November 6, 2016, and chaired by Saranpoh Mohammad Farid Hamidi, Attorney General (AG) of Afghanistan, discussed NUG support.  AGO Deputies and members of the Council participated to make decisions on important AGO issues.

In the first part of the session, the 4th National Conference of Afghan Prosecutors held last week was reviewed. AG Saranpooh Mohammad Farid Hamidi considered the conference a high achievement. He mentioned the achievement due to untiring efforts of AGO staff and officials and added, “We achieved support of the President and Chief Executive of National Unity Government. The result of the conference promotes rule of law and independency of AGO. These factors indicate the success of the conference.”

Mr. Hamidi believes the people’s expectations will increase after the AGO conference. This will motivate and build AGO staff interest in working and improving service for the people of Afghanistan. He added, “We should change the opinions, views, and findings of this conference to implementable objectives.”

The AG appreciated National Radio and Television for broadcasting the conference.

The next point of discussion in the session, proposal of Study and Scrutiny Department and establishing a technical archive to keep important criminal case documents.  Members of AGO High Council approved the proposal. The High Council believes the archive could be a Criminal Sciences Research Center. The center could be helpful for students of Law Faculty and those who are researching criminal science.

The AGO High Council session ended with presentation of the Joint Scrutiny Report of the Advisors Board of AGO and Directorate of Scrutiny and Studies. The report is designed to present AGO information for litigants, media, and other institutions and it was approved with the reformative comments of the Council members. The Joint Scrutiny Report demonstrates AGO commitment to transparency and accountability.
