Women’s Contributions to Justice and Judicial Institutions Will Lead to Their Access to Justice
During inauguration of the ‘Internship Opportunities for Women’ program, the Deputy Attorney General (DAG) for Financial and Administrative Affairs, Wahiduddin Arghon, stated how women working for Attorney General’s Office (AGO) will help Afghan women’s access to justice.
The program was held on March 31, 2017, at Karwan University with the presence of Abdullah Ahmadzai, Country Director of the Asia Foundation, and a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) representative and AGO directors.
Women from 14 provinces of Afghanistan were introduced to the program to build their capacity in justice and judicial areas.
The Internship Opportunities Program for Law and Sharia graduates is financially supported by USAID and implemented by the Asia Foundation.
Mr. Arghon expressed his appreciation of women’s progress over the past decade and added, “AGO has signed capacity building agreements with various institutions to build capacity of women in justice programs.”
He considered the “Internship Opportunities for Women” agreement as the biggest training program ever in the country.
Moreover, Mr. Arghon counted the addition of Deputy Attorney General Office for Elimination of Violence against Women, Juvenile Violation, and Human Rights Protection to the AGO structure as an important achievement. According to the DAG, employees of the new Deputy office are mostly women and it shows commitment of the AGO towards further allotment of seats for women in this administration.
The internship program is six months long and participants will be recruited by AGO after successful completion of training and based on merit recruitment procedures.
