A Four-year old girl was sold to a 45-year old man for Afs 60,000.
Samiullah, resident of Hazrat Sultan District, sold his four-year old daughter “Yasamin” to Nasrullah son of Esmatullah for Afs 60,000. Nasrullah, who already has a wife with 10 children married Yasamin in the presence of a Mullah.
Director of Samangan Appellate Prosecution Office took action as soon as he heard about the incident, and instructed the related officials to arrest the accused. After captivity, the case was assessed and investigated. Later the case was sent to Hazrat Sultan Primary Court. The Court sentenced Nasrullah (Yasamin’s husband) and Samiullah (Yasamin’s father) to five years imprisonment each on the charge of buying and selling Yasamin according to article 24 of the Law on Prevention of Violence against Women, and Mullah Alam to two years of imprisonment for illegally permitting the marriage of Yasamin according to article 28 of the mentioned law.
The Samangan Appellate Prosecution Office appealed the ruling of the Hazrat Sultan Primanry Court and requested a severer punishment for the defendants. As a result, Appellate Court’s Criminal Division convicted Nasrullah, the husband to 10 years imprisonment, Samiullah, the father to 5 years and 1 month and Mullah Alam to 3 years imprisonment respectively.
Additionally, On the occasion of March 8th, International Women’s Day, the Commission for enforcing presidential decree on pardon and reduction in punishments, ordered Samangan province Appellate Prosecution Office to enforce the decree in samangan. Based on the Afghanistan presidential decree, 47 prisoners have benefited the pardon.
