Second gathering of officials of the Prosecution of Elimination of Violence against Women conducted
Mohammad Farid Hameedi, Acting Attorney General, participated in the second gathering of officials of the Prosecution of Elimination of Violence against Women and stated: “We will not hesitate from any cooperation to maintain justice for the people of Afghanistan.”
The gathering was conducted by the cooperation of International Development Law Organization (IDLO) in Kabul Serena Hotel in presence of Mr. Hameedy Acting Attorney General, Deputies, Heads of Central and Provincial prosecutions of Elimination of Violence against Women. They gathered to Identify challenges and present the possible solutions for eliminating violations against women across the country.
Mohammad Farid Hameedy Acting Attorney General said: disregarding the efforts of Attorney General’s Office (AGO) is not fair. We seriously fight with the existing problems and we must prove to the people of Afghanistan that AGO has the capacity and determination to serve the people of Afghanistan. ̎
Mr. Hameedi believes, lack of responding to justice and judicial needs is one of the biggest problem in Afghanistan. He also added: “AGO Leadership will provide legal and political support including facilities to maintain justice for the people. ̎
Mr. Hameedi stressed on creating regulations and mechanisms for simplifying accessibility to AGO, asking the prosecution officials to treat visitors with human dignity in the office.
Miss Mary Loshram, Head of International Development Law Organization (IDLO) in Afghanistan appreciated the supports of Mr. Hameedi and said: ̎During the past 17 months (IDLO) has trained 415 prosecutors, and currently train special prosecutors of elimination of violence against women, districts’ prosecutors, moral crime, misdemeanor, assault, and juvenile prosecutors. IDLO will conduct capacity building trainings for prosecutors during the ongoing year. ̎
In addition, Miss Shram also mentioned that the capacity building trainings will be conducted in the months of May and August for AGO staff. In the meantime, coordination session will also be conducted for special prosecutors of elimination of violence against women in the month of August.
Qodsia Neyazi, Head of prosecution of elimination of violence against women appreciated the cooperation of (IDLO) and said: ̎Regardless of the challenges, we had great achievements in the past years. During the past 6 years, 5727 cases have been reviewed in center and provinces and most of these cases were family problems. Such gatherings are really great opportunities for finding and presenting solutions for eliminating the factors of violence against women. ̎
In this session, significant causes of violence against women such as: poverty, insecurity, addiction to narcotics and unemployment were discussed. Meanwhile, the government made a commitment in London Conference to the world community to fight violence against women in Afghanistan. Miss Qodsia Neyaze said: ̎Based on the above mentioned commitment of the Government, AGO was able to create the elimination of violence against women prosecutions in 34 provinces in 2015, in fact AGO could accomplish its commitment before the deadline, and it is a great achievement in fighting violence against women. In the meantime, we have Cassation Prosecution of Elimination of Violence against Women in center.
According to Miss Neyaze, Prosecution of Elimination of Violence against Women faces a lot of challenges such as: lack of human resources, office facilities, internet connectivity, fax facility and so on. She added: ̎One of the commitments of the Afghanistan Government to the world community in Tokyo Conference is presenting reports and statistics of violence against women. So that we request cooperation of (IDLO) to support us in equipping the provincial office for improving communications and reporting. ̎
In the recent years, it is the second overall gathering of Prosecutors of elimination of violence against women in the country. It was conducted with the support of (IDLO), and continued for 2 days. IDLO is one of the important donors of AGO.
