The third round of “National Integration Conference: Open Justice and Public Participation in Justice Institution” was held at GMIC, 13th of June 2019 by Integrity Watch Afghanistan.

The purpose of this conference is to institutionalize the role of people at Justice and Judicial entities.

Sayad Ikram Afzali, Director of the Integrity Watch Afghanistan said that we are very pleased from the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) for being opened for the public and it is necessary to make this process more inclusive.

Noor Habib Jalal, Deputy of Attorney General in Investigation Affairs said in this conference, that the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) is openly accepting sound, constructive and valuable critics. He further added, “providing of justice services at AGO and people’s access to justice and awareness of public from the AGO performances have significantly improved.”

According to Jalal, the leadership of the AGO has made eye-catching efforts in the last two years to implement the law and justice the same way on everyone.

During this conference, Mr. Jalal emphasized on the importance of the open trial and participation of people in the trial process and added that the AGO has played a vital role in the implementation of this process and seek to ensure the justice as a basic right of the Afghan people.

In another part of this conference, Mr. Jalal said that the AGO has visited more than 90,000 people in face to face and heard their problems and has directed to solve their problems (the Attorney General of Afghanistan is accepting face to face visit with Afghan public on every Monday). Mr. Jalal also mentioned that we have undertaken serious actions for not repeating those problems that are once shared in face to face visit.

He added that the leadership of the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) in order to identify the problems has launched the "Conference of Minbar against Corruption", to not only combat corruption but also in all sectors, through scholars and peoples, be able to find practical and precise solutions for the existing problems.

Mr. Noor Habib Jalal described the role of civil society institutions in addressing critical issues, adding that they as a neutral institution can easily identify the challenges and can share it with the AGO. According to him, any kind of complaints that we have received from any individuals or entities particularly from the civil society organizations has been addressed very positively and investigated in a serious manner.

Deputy of the AGO in Investigation Affairs said that the AGO has a separate meeting with a various class of the society (women, members of civil society, entrepreneurs, national traders, and youths) and has taken practical steps for addressing the existing problems and challenges based on their advice.

Jalal added, that the leadership of the AGO ordered to its provincial prosecution directories to specific a day in a year and report about their achievement in the presence of Ulema, civil society, media, and public people.
