AGO is going to form “General Directorate of Combatting Violence against Women at Offices”
On the final day of the “National Coordination Conference among EVAW Entities” the Attorney General of The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan said that Presidential Palace has approved the plan of establishing this directorate and work is underway to form this directorate.
Mr. Farid Hamidi added that the AGO has prepared a plan for effective combating against harassment and annoying of women in offices, which has been approved by the President. He considers this as an important step toward Elimination of Violence against Women (EVAW) at public and private office and said, “Through this directorate, we can restore the trust and confidence of families that public and private offices have secured environment for working and serving Afghan public.”
The Attorney General also emphasized on closed coordination and cooperation among related entities for effective combat against violence against women. According to Hamidi, violence destroy the foundation of a family and to eliminate this phenomenon, it needs a decisive incentive and will of the entities to create an environment free of violence.
During the final day of this conference, Mr. Hamidi said that violence against women is existed in every society, but decreasing this phenomenon in Afghanistan needs a multi-dimensional and multi-entity approach. According to his belief, families, educational centers, Ulema, and Afghan media must give hand in hand and work along with the judicial sector of the country to enforce the law, ensure justice and eliminate the roots of violence against women in the country.
Also, Mr. Hamidi said that AGO has treated with the cases of violence against women very powerfully and professionally and there is no exemption from being responsive. He added that I hope the practical results of this conference via sharing experiences, opinions, findings, and information have increased the professional knowledge of the participants and be useful for ensuring justice, enforce of the law and combatting violence against women.
During the final day of the conference, Mrs. Seena Shena Mansoor, Deputy of Attorney General in EVAW and Jubilance Delinquency said that we have shared the figures and data of such cases with related entities to prepare practical plans for decreasing and eliminating this phenomenon.

Mrs. Mansoor counted the fears of further violence, loss of children, lack of legal awareness, preservation of honor and dignity, emotional dependency and lack of confidence of the victims of violence as the factors that prevent them from referring to official authorities. She believes that where violent cases are resolved by local Jirga and councils, societal and tribal traditions are more abiding then law and this situation may lead to further violence.
Mrs. Mansoor, Deputy of the Attorney General thinks that the following strategies are very important in organizing legal awareness programs for men and women, creating sound employment for women, promoting the decrease in wedding costs, endeavor for justice of social security, conducting expert and scientific dialogues at media.
At the end of the final day of this conference, Rimond Maclrite, representative of IDLO emphasized on coordination and cooperation among various entities for EVAW and said that Official Justice for investigating the cases of violence against women it is very important.
This conference was organized with the financial cooperation of the IDLO for four days and concluded successfully on 17 July 2019.
